Please Introduce yourself to us.
I am Itohan Aiwansosa, I am 20 years old from Edo state, 400level student of University of Lagos. I study mass communication.
How did your career as a model begin?
That’s was 2019. I was in 200level then. I do see and admire models a lot and the fact that you can make money from just taking pictures. I started off as a face model, though I wasn’t making much money, it came with a lot of stress but it was nice.
How would you describe your style?
I don’t really have a particular type of style, am versatile sometimes I would like to dress like a man, other times I would like to dress like a lady.
What defines a modern woman in 2021?
Not been restricted by certain social ideologies of how a lady should be. What ever you like and it makes you happy, you should go for it. You should care much about what people say, go after what makes you feel good. I believe a modern woman in 2021 is someone that knows what she needs, her passion and is going after it.
What is your golden rule for dressing up?
Understand you body type. It cool if you have people that inspire your style, but understanding your body type before trying to look like some else goes a long way. Sometimes people blame fashion designers for not looking good on an outfit. You come across a picture of a lady in a dress looking wow. you have to understand the lady body type before going for the dress. You might have a limited wardrobe and still look good.
What sets someone apart from the crowd?
Confidence. There are over a billion people today on the planet and there is just you. You have to have the feeling you’re automatically unique. Be real to yourself.
Who are your fashion icons?
Toke Makinwa, she’s amazing, her outfit are always on point, she’s versatile as well. she’s not restricted to only one style. Rihanna as well, she’s the queen of style, I don’t care what anyone says. She could show up in any event looking different and perfect, from her hair, smiles, dress to her toes. It her versatility for me.
What is your inspiration behind your style?
Most of the time I am on Pinterest looking at Rihanna’s outfit.
What is your beauty routine?
First my major secret behind my glowing skin is Jesus (smiling). I use “My body secret”, I am an ambassador for My body secret, I get product from them. They have good skin care product. When I wake up I scrub my face to make sure dead cells are off the surface, then I use my toner to moisturize my skin to help prevent sun ray on my skin.
Note: I don’t do my skin care routine everyday, its good to give your skin time to breath.
What is the the best career advice you have ever been given?
If you have a passion for something, just do it.
What has been your proudest moment to date?
That would be when I won a pageantry competition in school. At the University of Lagos, every year we do have pageantry competition for all hostels. I usually don’t go for pageantry, I thought ok I will try out this one. I have never tried runways ever, I had to learn. The groomer never like me though, he had someone he wish would have won. I gave it my all, I did my best and I came out triumphant, I was proud of myself.
How do you overcome doubt?
Yes I am not perfect, apart from you motivating yourself the most important is having people with positive vibe, good energy around you. People you surround yourself at such stage matters, they play a major role during such times.
What has been your most daring achievement?
That when I started getting modelling jobs. I remember one I did for Oraimo and I was on set with 2 face. I felt good about it, I felt more like a star.
Do you have any unfulfilled dreams when it comes to modeling?
I want to be on several billboard or at least five billboards, telecommunication brands specifically. I am working on it.
If you could be anybody for a day, who would you choose?
What is your ‘go to’ shoe?
Nike Airforce white. I don’t care whatever you are wearing, dress, pants, wear Nike Airforce, it can never go wrong. When its a girl outing, I don’t think transparent heel will go wrong. They are not color selective and looks nice with any outfit.
How much working in fashion industry influenced your own perception of beauty and style?
The society standard of beauty do evolve over time. At some point, fat or chubby ladies were seen or equal to sexy while slim ladies were widely stereotype for their lack of flesh. I was slim and always wanted to be plus size, today reverse is the case. In the fashion industry today there is a particular body type that is considered beautiful and sexy. Slim models are preferred for jobs. They are seen as reckoning standard of beauty in the society.
Now, I am chubby, it hasn’t been easy trying to loose weight, I can’t go back to that flat ass tummy. Today you have plus size models pushing to be regarded in the fashion industry, everything evolves over time.
What do you hope to achieve this year?
Graduate with a soft result, be in three billboards, work with a tele-communication brands.
Which supermodels do you admire?
Mayowa Nickolas- coming from Nigeria and making such waves is so inspiring.
Do you have a secret talent?
I have the ability to make people laugh specially when I am comfortable with you. That’s why it is a secret.
What are the top 2 things on your Bucket List?
Sky dive. Meet Rihanna.
What is your Philosophy?
Leave for the moment, let tomorrow take care of itself.
