Following quite a while of speculations, singer Jennifer Lopez 51 and her life partner, Alex Rodriguez 45, have officially called off their engagement.
The former couple delivered an explanation to TODAY saying:
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects.”
The statement continued. “We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
Rodriguez recognized the split declaration Thursday on Instagram with a video on his story labeling Lopez. The clasp shows outlined photographs of the two, their kids and a fix of “Jennifer and Alex” written in sand with a heart around their names.
In the background, Coldplay’s “Fix You” played: “When you lose something, you cannot replace / Tears stream down your face,” Chris Martin could be heard singing.
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez got engaged in March 2019. The couple was booked to get married in Italy in June 2020 preceding the Covid pandemic hit mid-March.
Lopez was previously married to waiter Ojani Noa (1997 to 1998), dancer Cris Judd (2001 to 2003) and singer Marc Anthony (2004 to 2014), with whom she shares 13-year-old twins, Maximilian “Max” David and Emme Maribel.
Rodriguez was married to Cynthia Scurtis from 2002 to 2008. They have two daughters: Natasha Alexander, 16, and Ella Alexander, 12.
